"Center's agenda fails - Desperate Margaret Alva attacks Mangalore Bishop"

Secular activists ruining the chances of peace

By Team Mangalorean, Bangalore
MANGALORE, Sept 21, 2008: Various so called Secular and Human Rights activists have now started unleashing a barrage of words that has the potential of ruining the chances of long lasting peace and harmony in the city.
An array of "secular characters" starting from the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, his father H.D. Deve Gowda (who is also the former prime minister of India) former judge of Karnataka High Court M.F. Saldanha, film maker Mahesh Bhat and his followers in the Maharashtra Minority Commission, Teesta Setalvad, State minister for Wakf Arif Mohammad Khan, former state minority commission Chief Anwar Manippady, leaders of Karnataka Forum for Dignity and Komu Souharda Samithi and the pseudo secular characters from Congress party had attacked the peace pact executed by the Catholic Christians and Hindu organisations in the wake of the anti Christian sentiments and attacks on churches.
All these persons have criticised sections of the Catholic order, led by the Bishop of Mangalore Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza and the VHP leader Prof. M.B. Puranik for signing a pact of peace. The criticism meted out by these leaders has put the peace process in Mangalore between the two communities into jeopardy despite the best intensions of the leaders of the two communities. These are the two major communities in Mangalore and any peace process if had to succeed in the district these two communities are a must in the given conditions.
Even Margeret Alva had complained about leaving out the protestant church out of the peace process. Teesta in her scathing remark on the "compromising" agreement with Hindutva groups with Catholic Church was nothing short of a compromise. She said "There can be no peace without justice. Throughout the history, sections from the victim community have been co-opted by the oppressor." Which was a characteristic of the fundamentalist. She did not spare the Catholic Church also. She termed as "opportunistic" and "lacking in character" the concessions made by the Catholic leadership.

It is very sad to know real issue of "convesrion" is deliberately subdued by highlighting attacks on churches. It is the time to expose "conversion mania" in media and through peaceful protests. Takeing advantages of weaker people for conversion is dangerous for human society. I did write article about the same and It is time for every one to put conscious effort to stop these things.

I would like to know if U R Ananth Murthy is a Congress worker? There is a need to probe into whether he deserved the Jnaana Peetha Award.

Dear Bharath,
If you believe that "conversion" is such a real issue then why are there no police complaints (real or unreal) against the same? If you sincerely believe that weaker sections of the society are being exploited, why not file a PIL subject to investigation. No one can make a person believe in something or stop one from believing. Faith is personal.

I'm touched by your concern for the masses, but I'd like to say that there are more real issues like poverty, illiteracy, primary health, drinking water etc that our people battle with on a daily basis which we together need to address. Lets make some noise about it.

Sir,

Please go through this news
http://www.outlookindia.com/pti_news.asp?gid=13&id=612206.
A group, including students, of East Coast Christian Matriculation School in Neelankarai had come on a tour to Udhagamandalam and took a break at Coimbatore.
As the students and some teachers left for shopping, the five persons started distributing pamphlets "propagating" Christianity and reportedly "denigrating" Hindu Gods. They were arrested by the police on Complaint of some local and were arrested.

The next day the newspapre carried news that were to simply whitewash this statement. Thankfully it happened in Tamil Nadu and not Karnataka. Otherwise Sir you could have received one more advisory and CNN IBN would have a whole week dedicated at this incident.

I wonder this news is even reported in any media anywhere else in India.

These entire news will be whitewashed..policemen will be suspended.. Already Times of India has a report on 27th Chennai edition with intervies of unnamed sources that the pamphlet was not what they had and they have no idea on how the pamphlet changed.

The best thing I like about these fundies are the ease with they lie.

And the duplicity of media.. judge yourselves with the following news.

Dear Sir,

In Times of India 8th Oct Edition there is a article by Mr. Michael Pinto, Vice Chairman National Commission for Minorities has appeared heading"Dont Target Converts".
It is one of the most comical piece of article ever scene but also an indication of the mockery we are fast becoming.

I will mention some of the jems he has mentioned in brackets.

(Should a civilised, tolerant society get into so personal a matter as the religious conviction of its citizens? After all, what is so perverse about conversion? If you exercise your fundamental right to preach and propagate your religion and someone, convinced by your arguments, comes over to your side how can anyone object? We are told that such changes cause unrest in society. But in public life we do not allow the unrest argument to prevent individuals from changing their loyalties or ideologies.)
True Mr. Pinto.. But as long as you do not say that My god is better than your god. That is the abuse of other religion. And by the way Religion is not same as Ideology or Loyality.

And then a gem of thinking that will revolutionalise religion.
(The only legitimate ground on which conversion can be opposed is if it can be shown to have resulted from the use of force or fraud. Several states, including Orissa, have enacted legislation to prevent conversions by force or fraud or even inducement. In respect to the latter, they are on shaky ground. When you go to a shop and, under the terms of some promotion, you are told that you can buy one and get one free, is this not inducement? If this is allowed as a legitimate tool in commerce, it cannot be illegitimate elsewhere.)

Now Sir here you are right. After all you agree the commerce of conversion. At the end of the day you have to show the numbers for the money you collect in name of saving souls so what is wrong in adding some inducement as people will not just change their religion on sermons. At the end of the day one needs to acheive his daily target. But Sir, For us Changing religion is not business and hence we do get disturbed.

( Even if the Christian population had increased substantially as a result of conversion, there would have been nothing wrong with this as long as the conversions were the result of a change of heart and not the use of force or fraud.)
Sir you forgot to add inducement as anyway you can already have justified freebies as genuine marketing tool.

Dear Sir, If possible go through this gem. It will be in today bangalore Edition too.
And this person will come in a fact finding committee and then decide. And that too on taxpayer money.
