News from Deccan Herald: Intensifying pressure on the Karnataka government to act strongly against the spreading communal violence, the UPA government on Friday issued a fresh warning under Article 355 of the Constitution to contain the strife.
"It is unfortunate and politically motivated. When there are disturbances in many parts of the country, they (Centre) have chosen two states where Congress is not ruling,"
"The statement issued by the Government of India to Karnataka and Orissa is a part of votebank politics. Madam ko 355 candles ki aarti utaari gayi hai (It is an act to please Madam),"
"The Centre has used this political weapon in an attempt to save itself from the simmering anger across the country against terrorism"
What about Terror attacks in Delhi; Violence in Nandigram/West Bengal; Mumbai;Marad violence in Kerala; Tripura, Jammu & Kashmir or earlier communal violence episodes which happened in Karnataka under congress rule? Was it not necessary to invoke the articles then?
It clearly shows that constitutional provisions are misused only to get rid of Non Congress governments!
Karnataka asks Centre to `wait` and not `hurry`
Bangalore, Sept 19: The Karnataka government on Friday expressed its displeasure with the Centre after the latter slapped on it a fresh warning on the church issue and described the advisory, the second to be issued since yesterday, as "hasty and unwarranted". "It is a hasty step. The Centre should have waited for some more time. Our government has already brought the situation under control. There are no casualties in the attack on churches in the state," Karnataka Home Minister V S Acharya hit back after the Union Home Ministry send the second warning asking the state to stop attacks on Christian institutions and bring the culprits to book. Acharya, who is away from the city, said that he was not aware of the fresh warning and had only been briefed about the missive sent by the Union Home ministry yesterday. He charged that the Centre was "creating problems". Giving a political tinge to the controversy, he said "probably the Congress is doing all these things as it is unable to face the bye-elections to seven constituencies to be held in the state". Seven MLAs from Congress and JDS had joined the BJP after resigning their assembly membership. Meanwhile, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S Suresh Kumar said "yes, we have received another letter by fax from Union Ministry this evening. It is the continuation of yesterday's advisory only".
