Ban on CPI Maoist movement...when left is not on the right path...

State Home Minister V S Acharya on Monday welcomed the Centre’s decision to ban the CPI (Maoist), declaring ait as a terrorist organisation, reports DHNS from Bangalore.

“We welcome the Centre’s move. It will help the State to book cases against those involved in Naxalism under the Unlawful Activities Act. The Centre should have done it long ago,” he said. Acharya said the State Government would not only announce a package to rehabilitate surrendered Naxals but also come up with a development blueprint for the Maoist-affected regions of the state.Acharya told reporters that his government was in the process of finalising details of the package, which would end nearly two-decade-old Naxal menace in the State. He, however, refused to divulge details. The government wants to bring those involved in Naxal activities in to the mainstream and completely root out the menace from the State. “So far, the results have been very encouraging. Some of them (Naxalites) have already come forward to surrender,” he said.Asked whether the government would initiate legal proceedings against those who surrender, Acharya said he did not want to reveal any details about the package in the State’s interest. “We are on the verge of ending the Naxal movement and we are confident at this stage that it will be ended,” he added.Naxalism started in 1992 with the Appiko movement. Many members of the then Karnataka Vimochana Sangha turned into Naxalites. But unlike other Naxal-affected States, the movement did not get the peoples’ support. Karnakata was not in the list of seven Naxal-affected states, he said. (Deccan Herald)

Lay down arms and come for talks: Karnataka to naxals Bangalore (PTI): Karnataka government on Monday said the drive against naxals would continue but at the same time it was ready for talks if the ultras lay down their weapons.
"We will continue with the exercise against Naxals. However, the government is ready for talks, provided they give up arms," state Home Minister V S Acharya told reporters in Bangalore.
The police and Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) have stepped up combing operations in Chikmagalur forest area, after an encounter between police and naxals near Horanadu on November 19 killed three outlaws and a constable.
Acharya alleged that certain vested interests were behind the growth of naxal movement in the state in an attempt to disturb the investment climate.
Refusing to elaborate on his charge, he said "I will tell you (media) all. We are collecting information."
Parts of Shimoga, Chikmagalur, Udupi and Mangalore faced naxal menace.
Differing with Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, he said the coming by-election to seven Assembly seats on December 27 in the State was a "referendum" on the performance of the BJP government.
"Every election for that matter is a referendum on the government", Acharya said, even as Yeddyurappa declared that the outcome will not be a referendum on his government.
Acharya, however, said BJP will win all the seven seats going to the polls
BANAGALORE: Home Minister Dr V S Acharya has defended the recent shootout with naxals in Shimoga district.
Dr Acharya alleged that several vested interests in the guise of naxalism were hampering development of a few districts, including the most literate Udupi and Dakshina Kannada.
Dr Acharya said that the government was willing to talk to them if they (naxals) dropped arms.
