Lay down arms and come for talks: Karnataka to naxals Bangalore (PTI): Karnataka government on Monday said the drive against naxals would continue but at the same time it was ready for talks if the ultras lay down their weapons.
"We will continue with the exercise against Naxals. However, the government is ready for talks, provided they give up arms," state Home Minister V S Acharya told reporters in Bangalore.
The police and Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) have stepped up combing operations in Chikmagalur forest area, after an encounter between police and naxals near Horanadu on November 19 killed three outlaws and a constable.
Acharya alleged that certain vested interests were behind the growth of naxal movement in the state in an attempt to disturb the investment climate.
Refusing to elaborate on his charge, he said "I will tell you (media) all. We are collecting information."
Parts of Shimoga, Chikmagalur, Udupi and Mangalore faced naxal menace.
Differing with Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, he said the coming by-election to seven Assembly seats on December 27 in the State was a "referendum" on the performance of the BJP government.
"Every election for that matter is a referendum on the government", Acharya said, even as Yeddyurappa declared that the outcome will not be a referendum on his government.
Acharya, however, said BJP will win all the seven seats going to the polls
BANAGALORE: Home Minister Dr V S Acharya has defended the recent shootout with naxals in Shimoga district.
Dr Acharya alleged that several vested interests in the guise of naxalism were hampering development of a few districts, including the most literate Udupi and Dakshina Kannada.
Dr Acharya said that the government was willing to talk to them if they (naxals) dropped arms.
