The project hopes to increase cashew kernel production from the present 1.15-lakh MT to 2.75-lakh MT a year, raw nut production to 19-lakh MT, widening the overseas market to 125 countries from the current 65, achieving 50 per cent compounded average growth rate in exports in the case of 20 focus-counties, ensure 20 per cent of the cashew exported is value-added. Former chairman of CEPCI Walter D’Souza said Vietnam was an emerging market and it threatened to overtake India as the leading exporter of cashew. An attempt was on to float "Global Cashew Alliance" with Vietnam and Brazil, which was the other major exporter of cashew. (report from Mangalorean)
