Special Police Station


BANGALORE: Smuggling spirit in Karnataka will not be easy now. A special police station -- excise enforcement and lottery prohibition wing, at Hampin Nagar was inaugurated on 24th Sept.


This is the 39th in the state and the first in the city. Other stations in Gulbarga, Shimoga, Bellavi, Bagalkot, Bijapur and Tumkur have already started to function. The minister said the government had already sanctioned 41 more special police stations for the state which will become functional by year-end."The government incurs huge losses due to the smuggling of fake Indian-made foreign liquor and spirit from other states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.'' S K Venugopal IGP (excise) said: "Few special excise police stations have started functioning and two more are expected to start soon. At this station in Bangalore, Abdul Sattar IPS will head a 12-member squad. Proposals for land have been made to the revenue department to create a parade ground and staff quarters; five acres are currently available. One more will soon be set up in Bangalore East." (TOI)
