Bengaluru, Aug. 8: A war memorial would be built in Bengaluru at the earliest in memory of soldiers who laid down their lives while defending the country, said home minister Dr VS Acharya on Sunday.

Deccan Chronicle: Reading out Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa’s speech in his absence, the minister reiterated the government’s resolve to build the memorial at the Indira Gandhi fountain park to honour the nation’s brave soldiers.
The government would like to extent atleast 50 per cent rebate in property tax to all ex-servicemen and defense personnel as against the earlier proposal of 100 per cent rebate, he said, adding that the government will also provide necessary support to the family members of jawans who become martyrs.
Governor HR Bhardwaj said retired jawans should be given a job in the civil service.
