"We haven't done anything different. We just followed a precedent set by previous governments since 2001,'' home minister V S Acharya told the council on Friday. Congress-JD(S) members, however, walked out of the House over the issue. Defending the decision, Acharya said 955 cases, including criminal offences lodged against former ministers, legislators and political leaders, have been withdrawn by governments since 2001. Over 420 cases were withdrawn in 2005 when Dharam Singh was at the helm of affairs, he added. "We have shown generosity not only towards our leaders but also of the opposition - Siddaramaiah and T B Jayachandra.''
