Udupi, Oct 4: The qualities of non-violence, simplicity, truth and non-greediness reflect the core of Santana Dharma, said minister of higher education Dr V S Acharya.

He was speaking after garlanding the statue of Gandhiji near Bhujanga Park, Ajjarkadu here on Saturday October 2. "Though Gandhiji had studied law, instead of lucrative profession opted to serve the downtrodden, which later gave him recognition worldwide. Our nation would have been the most self-sufficient and strong if we only had implemented the nation envisaged by Gandhiji, he observed.

Dr Acharya said, "If we can only develop in all the fields in equal measure as to in the fields of education, health and cleanliness, it is possible to attain greater heights."

Deputy commissioner P Hemalata, town municipality president Kiran Kumar, vice-president Bharati Chandrashekar, members Yashpal Suvarna, Ravi Ameen and senior citizen U damodar among others were present. Gamsmriti, a music programme by the team of Sarigama Bharati Vidyalaya, Manipal was held on the occasion.

Dr Acharya also garlanded the statue of gandhiji at the Malpe beach on the day. MP D V Sadananda Gowda, MLA Raghupati Bhat, deputy commissioner P Hemalata and Panduranga Malpe of Malpe Development Committee among otehrs were present.
