Rave Party: Yes or No?

If illegal activities are brought to light by the general public...it is branded as "moral policing"and the Police are blamed for thier "inaction" to curb such activity... But when Police themselves raid on illegal Rave Parties, they are blamed again!
Freedom without responsibility leads to anarchy!
What is your opinion?

There is a witch hunt on the BJP Govt by the media/central govt and the Anti-BJP Supporters. Congrats for the Karnataka Police for arresting those involved in Rave parties, you need to bring out more such things in light to shut the critics. A couple of instances that indicate witch hunt on the Karnataka Govt:

1. still the media or a lot of people state that the Kerala MLA's daughter's abduction was because of moral policing by Pro-Hindu activists although the Police have proved that it was done by people related to the MLA, Communist party

2. Even now, there is forced opinion about the Ashwini suicide episode. Some people are selectively ignoring that she is a minor and the other guy was 26 and there was a possible case of exploitation/rape etc. The blame is put on Moral Policing by Hindus.

Though I don't support parties, just to get the facts right in this case, I understand that police have admitted not finding any drugs at the site and hence it doesn't qualify as Rave Party (As in yesterday's Vijaya Karnataka, page 2)

Good job, law enforcers! They protected the law of the state by shutting down the rave and detaining the offenders.

However, the police is not being blamed in the media. It is the law makers who are being accused of "anarchy" by imposing sanctions on what is perfectly proper in most other parts of India.

According to the govt., the idea of imposing a sanction on "Live Acts" in my beloved state is to reduce crime rate and curb anti-social activities.

However, now, seeing that the police force is doing it's job efficiently in upholding the law, question arises- Do we need this sanction on Live Acts anymore? Can we let the people choose to go and socialize, like peers around the world and in other parts of India do?

Again, good job, enforcers. But as a semi-professional musician, I'm strongly against the govt's sanctions due to invoking the live act rule.

Where are we going with this treatment of the govt and the police? Are those ppl committed any crime? No drugs found, No illegal activities found,Just a complaint from the people in the neighborhood...What could have been a wise treatment is to warn the ppl who attended the party or ask them to leave the premises!!!!
Police should be spending their resources in preventing bigger crimes like theft, robbery, homicides, crime against women rather than spending their energy in these petty issues and thus by aqcuiring much wanted spotlight from the media!!!! Those people are hardworking tax payers and students wanted have a good time...if anyone should be really worried is their parents and the ppl who attended the party are wise and old enough to take care of themselves!!!
Please sir, please make the police stop these kind of activities against innocent people!!!! And stop killing the sprit of Bangalore!

Sir with all due respect this was not a rave party. There were no drugs, there were just a bunch of people dancing IN PRIVATE PROPERTY having something to drink.

So how can you book all of them under 294 when none of them were in public land? and how can you book all of them on excise laws when not all of them were selling liquor?

Your government promised a lot but what has it done to provide security to people? Its been more than 6 months and there is still no justice for the bangalore blasts, people cant drink in pubs anymore and now people can't even drink in their farm houses either. Girls can't walk on the street without being hit, even riding a bike women have paint thrown on them.

Look everyone who voted for your party hoped for change but not madness. I mean in a recession when people are losing jobs which government spends 130 crores of tax payers ON TEMPLE DONATIONS? Is that your idea of beating the recession? I voted for your party and this is what I get?

Sir I am respectfully asking you to do something about the justice in our state. Peace loving people are getting beaten up for the clothes they wear to the place they are and the culprits are out on the streets. Bangalore and Karnataka has always been an open minded society which is now in danger of being a society of hypocrites.

Do you really want a solution for this drinking problem that we have? Copy the west. They have areas close to the center of the city where there are only pubs and a lot of police. Now choose an area in bangalore and designate is as a party area where pubs are open all night. With a lot of police there will be security ensure that everyone are drinking age, none of the drivers leaving are drunk and no illegal activities. Charge a little extra tax or if you use government land get rent and that will pay for the police. Then people will party, there is security and safety and most importantly you get excise and drunk driving fines which you can use to build Karnataka.

Your party doesnt need an operation lotus to win elections. It needs ideas and young educated people who want to bring up karnataka because they are proud of it. It doesn't need old people giving the same old ideas because that is all we have been getting from the other parties too.

We need law and order and parents should not worry whether their daughters will come back home with their honor intact. We need to be tough on criminals who threaten our livelyhood and not let hooligans take over our society. Businesses must come to the state and not run away from it. Every district must have a super speciality hospital. There are so many positive things which you can do instead of running a blog that is filled with negativity against the press. Why fight the press when you can use them?

A Soul In Exile said...

Dr Acharya

You are making incorrect assumptions/claims here.

What was illegal in this party? No Drugs? So how are arrests justified... Is it illegal to celebrate and have a party? If they were causing noise/public nuisance, does that need 100 people being arrested? If its because the place wasn't meant for such parties commercially - why did not the police arrest the owner of the place - who incidentally has political links?

Dont mix up the Mangalore Pub attack and this... Both are wrong!!! In Mangalore - hooligans attacked without justification or right... Here, the police acted without any justification again.
Trying to project this incident as a proactive policing is an invalid argument... since it amounts to police doing an incomplete job. And yet again, whats your logic of calling it a rave party...So far there seems to be no justification towards that.

In nut shell, the incidents of last several months - have deeply saddened people like me who had vehemently voted for BJP in the last elections - hoping that there would be a difference. Unfortunately, we voted in a govt which is busy destroying peace of common man and letting hooliganism play roost.

What is your opinion?

Hello Sir,

Not sure why you are bent upon calling it a rave party when the police have confirmed that they found no drugs in the party. The last time I checked, the results if the party-goers were on drugs was not out. So how can you possibly call it a rave party? can you provide links to substantiate the same or would you want to stand corrected??

You are making prevaricating statements above that. The IBNLIVE link you have given ONLY states an opinion that the curfew time is not reasonable. Why is it 11:30 for a city like Bangalore?

Nobody is asking for legalizing a rave party. You somehow want to dodge the real issue of the 11:30 curfew time itself by giving an impression that someone's in favor of a rave party!

You are guilty of OBFUSCATION!!!

Regards,
Amith

I am normally a very strong critic of present media channels.
But in this case, as per what I have read in news papers, the legal stand point is, it is illegal to sell liquor without license.
But the people who organized the party are not arrested.

In this case, there were no drugs. So it cant be termed as "rave party" and media projected it wrong way. Also police went into a trap of media.

Anonymous said...

Absence of drugs does not make this party "legal".

Those who still don't understand here are the illegal acts:

1. People were charged 1000 Rupees for entrance. So this was not some innocent birthday party!

2. Liquor was flowing freely in the party without any permit. It is irrelevant if it was a public or private place - if you are gathering people and charging them for entrance and liquor you need to have license. It is that simple.

Let us think a hypothetical scenario here.

Suppose party finished and people were driving home next morning and meet with a deadly accident.

Won't same people and media blame police for irresponsibly allowing parties outside the city?

Anonymous said...

First of all Congratulations to Bangalore Police on raiding the Rave Party. Yes I stress again RAVE PARTY, I have seen quite many comments in this page which say that if there are no drugs it is not a Rave Party. My sincere suggestion to all of them ..get your English right...Do a google search about Rave party..and you will find the definition of Rave Party which says that its a party in the outskirts of the city mainly participated by youngsters by playing loud music, dancing whole night, drinking & consuming drugs...and further it is being banned all over the world including countries like UK and USA..So what if one Rave Party did not have drugs in it..such unethical practices should not be allowed in the name of happy hours, freedom for youngsters

One more thing which surprises me is that media and many people question how can such an act happen in an IT city? I am also in IT and as I have observed techies atmost may go to a team lunch which does involve moderate drinks and dinner and they go home on time..and no one has the time to attend Rave Parties or any other form of unethical gatherings...media/anyone should not project as though pubs and Rave parties are part and parcel of an IT city..

Girish

A Soul In Exile said...

@Girish

Looks like you did google search - found drugs as part of definition - yet decide to call this rave and unethical - just because you just don't like the idea anyways. Why is it unethical? Why do you have an issue with youngsters if their parents don't have an issue. Let the parenting be left to parents, not the government and police.

The police can not stop the murders, mugging and molesting that happens everyday in the city - but wants to take up the role of parenting.

I don't party, I don't go to outskirts/farmhouses...I don't drink... But I don't think me or anyone has a right to decide what everyone else should be doing... because that is exactly what MORAL policing is.

Anonymous said...

Dr. Acharya Avare:

I am happy to see that you are encouraging democratic discussion by publishing viewpoints contrary to your own. I have to agree with most of the commentors here. The police went overboard with the partygoers.

Girish:

It is you who need to 'get your English right'. And probably work on your analytical skills too. You yourself say that a Rave party, by definition, needs to have drugs to qualify as a 'Rave party'. And the very next sentence you say, "So what if one rave party did not have drugs in it". What do you work on in 'IT' by the way? Documentation?

What is 'unethical' in dancing and playing loud music? You're stating your opinion as one of the noble truths of the Buddha.

But yes, I agree with the statement: "if you are gathering people and charging them for entrance and liquor you need to have license". In this respect there was illegal activity. But the heat should be on the organizers more than the party goers, right? Not the other way round! This sets a very wrong precedent. Tomorrow if I go to any event on paying an entrance fee am I liable to be arrested just because the organizer did not have a licence to organize the event? How???

Anonymous said...

@Girish

...and further it is being banned all over the world including countries like UK and USA..

So you say rave party means an all-night party that could or not be including drinks/drugs. Now why is then a rave party by itself in totality be banned. Any links to that effect that is in UK/US? And if they decide that night-party is illegal, why are we to ape them without a rational reason?

So what if one Rave Party did not have drugs in it..such unethical practices should not be allowed in the name of happy hours, freedom for youngsters

What is so "unethical" about a rave party without drugs? Care to explain your abstract notion of ethics that's coming into play.

If you have personal reservations about an all-night party, it's fine. You needn't have to go. No one's put a gun against someone and demanding they go party. Staying out is an option!

One question to all:

Suppose a party like this is happening right next to your home destroying your sleep and comfort…

Unable to bear the noise and disturbance, assume you approach local police. Now what do you expect the police to do?
A. Tell you “sorry we don’t want to do anything- may be they are having a private party- swalpa adjust maDkoLLi…”

or B. take some action if it is proved that party is being held without authorization?

Anonymous said...

Johnson – this is only for you!

Q: Suppose party finished and people were driving home next morning and meet with a deadly accident?

Ans: Have you ever drunk the liquor? – If yes, you would have never asked such a stupid question in your life 

I travel all the places, you know where one of the worst words can be found in India – it’s no other than Karnataka. I stay in Chennai, when we travel by Bus from Chennai to Bangalore you know how people identify have we reached Bangalore?

FYI, Karnataka stands top three in road accidents – so as per your knowledge all people were drunken drivers!

Que: People were charged 1000 Rupees for entrance. So this was not some innocent birthday party!

Ans: If you had ever attended any party in your life, you would have never asked such a question! Its obvious that when you want some thing you have to spend some thing boss 

What irrelevant are you talking about? – First learn to ask relevant question then you can start commenting.

I am not trying to abuse you – please be specific when you want to comment on any thing!

Anonymous said...

Acharyaji, Looking at all these comments, I'm really astonished. I feel you should prove that it WAS a RAVE PARTY, as everyone knows it but with no proof. Kindly see to it that the medical report doesn't get manipulated if it proves the presence of drugs, and the people are booked under NDPS act, not under excise act.
And the owner of the farmhouse should be arrested, no political games again, please!

Regards,
Shree

If these drunks high on grass mow down people sleeping on footpath then same Times Of India and other media will be blaming police for allowing private parties and allowing drunken driving.

As you said police get blamed for not enforcing laws but same police are blamed more by Page 3 crowd when they enforce the law.

Thanks for taking these head-on.

werethere any journos in the arrested crowd? Looks like the mediamen have accepted these illegal " birthday celebrations" as normal events!

Dear Hon Acharya,
There is little doubt that the media - primarily TOI - is hounding you. TOI bats for certain elements in the city. But please continue doing your excellent job and sounding through blog. Whether it was a rave party or not by definition is not the issue....the police has every right to detain and question a party happening without permit. TOI has tried to evoke sympathy by citing that there was a lady with asthma in the gang and she had to suffer in prison. But what was she doing all night in the party ? Do her parents/family approve of this ? If she had asthma she should have stayed at home like a good girl/lady !!
Bengaluru is getting a bad name due to certain migrants and the media. Good old Bengaluru had none of these problems. TOI wants to project the "other" side of Bengaluru as its real representation - ever since it made its appearance.......There is a huge divide in the city in terms of culture and language and TOI should release 2 distinct editions to cater to these diversities ....for it to be fair to its responsible role !!

Anonymous said...

I do not understand why so called Bangaloreans blame people come from other places straightaway. As a matter of fact I've been to pubs couple of times and saw so many people who are from Bangalore itself. They do party as others do.

Moreover to the issue of Rave Party. My answer is 'NO".

But the treatment with the asthma patient is questionable. And yes some gentleman (Mr. Rajesh Rao) questioned her ability to go the parties and suggested to be at home. Tomorrow he will say that people who are mentally/physically challenged have no right to live in the society.

Might be a person (Mr. Rajesh Rao) or couple will question the relevance of topic here, but in the "good old Bangalore" does police used to register a complaint for bike theft, or police also got changed after people came from other places?

why the heroes of this party hiding their faces?

Anonymous said...

I also think there may have some journalists or mediamen and women involved in these rave parties. Is that why they are covering the faces? If they are so proud to party illegally, why are they hiding their faces?

It is also interesting to see completely different perspective in Kannada newspapers who are wholeheartedly supporting police action.

Is this a Kannada vs outsider issue boiling up?

I am very happy to see that the farm owner who is responsible has been punished, It's really great move by the government, "Great job done."

There are many people here who are commenting why people are hiding their faces.

In this free society they have right to do so. In this country where people often form opinions which are incorrect or are based on bias, it best to avoid unnecessary attention. Why are some people make anonymous comments. Are they ashamed of their comments?

Anonymous said...

Sir,

I completely agree with your views that "Freedom without responsibility leads to anarchy". But in this case What makes you feel that the party goers are not responsible? The only irresponsible act I see that they were making was noise, but is that enough to justify putting 100 people behind bars(without basic toilets) for couple of days?

About the other issue "police are blamed for inaction to curb such activity".Someone raised a question if they were accidents while they were returning home.Going by this logic the best thing to reduce drunken driving is police visiting every bar/pub and arrest people who have come there in their own vehicle, potentially he/she may be drunk driver while returning home. Sir police can definitely seize the music instruments, ask them to stop over till the morning and then send them back. This is the exact case of "Freedom without responsibility" from the state (machinery) side. Can anyone in explain/give out details publicly(either on a blog or dept website) on how/where if a group of people want to have a good time(within in legal limits i.e a dance, chat and a drink and drinking is no crime as the state supports it collecting a part of the revenue).

Lastly thank you for writing a blog and asking the people to voice their opinion. I would love to see more of these kind of interaction with the public. My loyalties to your party only increases with this kind of open interactions.

A Soul In Exile said...

@Shrinidhi

There is an obvious Option C which you decided to ignore.

C) The police come to the party and have it stopped and haul up the organiser/host for creating public nuisance - (and not arrest all the invitees).

@RajeshRao,Vatsalan and others...
Yeah - but out here, it seems there is an interest in highlighting how there are foreigners and non-Kannidaga's out there in the invitee list polluting the city... So get a blame list ready.

What is this non-Bangalorean vs Bangalorean undercurrent in this issue? Does anyone even realize where the people who were organizers or the person who owns the damn place are from...? Who own the most pubs and bars ? Who owns the liquor outlets you find near every signal and every bus stop in Bangalore...? Which state has had the the maximum distilleries? Which state is home to Vijaya Mallya - the Alcohol King of India?

Stop making this into a Karnataka vs non-Karnataka issue... This is a simple issue of police taking action beyond what was required...

Nothing justifies a group of hooligans abusing, attacking and harassing women on Brigade road or MG Road for their dressing - just because the hooligans are locals and the women are non-locals.

Anonymous said...

Mr !!!!,

>>>>>his is a simple issue of police taking action beyond what was required...
>>>>>

How do you know police took action beyond what is required? And what are your credentials to make such statements? Have you studied law? Do you know all rules and regulations better than police?

What exactly is "what is required"?

You keep saying owner should have been arrested and others should have been let free.

Which responsible authority will let bunch of piss drunk druggies free at 3AM in the morning? I can assure you these drunk druggies would have ended up in gutter or accidents and you would have come to minister's blog and blamed police and minister for "irresponbile behaviour of chasing party goers" as well, won't you?

Anonymous said...

I think Mr.Acharya should point by point justify why the Police arrested the paty-goers..What are the lessons a citizen could learn from this episode? The way the whole incident is picturised as anti-liberal tirade from the right is unfortunate.

Accidents on Mysore road because of drunken driving is a very valid issue. And whoever responsible for it,have to be highlighted. Why should so many innocent travellers/pedestrians continue to lose their lives on the road because of drunken driving? And dont these rave parties serve as stepping stones to future drug-addicts and perverts?

Yes..Those who were caught were pretty unlucky as they did nt do anything heinous to deserve such a long ordeal, but all said and done rave parties of such magnitude needs to be discouraged and this move from the police need not be admonished this much by the media..

Hello Sir,

I am a fellow Bangalorean and currently at Dubai. Well Bangalore seems to be the only city that has no night life and doesnt allow any parties to occur. For people like u and others at Government who dont have to slog from 9 to 6 for 6 days a week u will always oppose but what about us who pay hefty taxes to the Government and in return have to accept the sick treatment of a useless police force. I agree that party with drugs involvement is wrong but do u think the way the police treat the people is correct. Arent they lacking Patience? All cops who pay bribe and get jobs are worth nothing other than this. Frankly speaking Bangalore is a boring place on Planet.

Mr Sudharshan Nair

You dont need a law degree to figure out what is excessive...

"Which responsible authority will let bunch of piss drunk druggies free at 3AM in the morning? "

Do you need to haul up 100 people into jail for 3-4 days to prevent them from falling into gutter. Are your jails some kind of de-addiction centres...? And what right do you have to call them druggies without any justification. Dont let your biases overwhelm you...

If there is such concern about drunk people - let the government declare total prohibition in the state. What logic does it have that you must be arrested for having had alcohol at place X but its okay to have it at a bar/pub...

Unknown said...

@ all critics,

The duty of HM or police is to act based on complaints and book under law. The decision of legal/illegal will be made only by courts not media or bloggers nor police.

In this case, the court has "fined" them under bailable offense. In other words, courts have ruled that police were justified!!

Sir, we are in full support of your action. We know you will never cross the line unnecessarily.

These same people will usually say, "rules are rules"..Now, since it is affecting them, they cry hoarse.

Dear Dr. Acharya,

I am proud of your stance and for the first time we are seeing some action being taken towards reining in an otherwise unruly crowd. What people seem to forget is that in a democracy the other persons rights on which we happily encroach upon is equally important. Ones rights cannot interfere with the neighbours right for peace and quiet. After all what happens in these so called parties is just gay abandon drinking and mindless dancing. But why action only in far away places when such parties happen in our own Bengaluru. Even as recent as Valentines day and the day after there were all night parties at Dayanand Pais farm house on bellary road, which went on till 3.00 am in the morning with the drunken revellers taking to the mike and belting out sad numbers in their "Gardhaba Kantas"(even the donkeys would have felt ashamed and claimed they could have done a better job.

Entry fee of 1000 bucks for a birthday party ? Are you kidding me ? Why didn't the organizers didn't take the permit from the required personels to conduct the party ? Were they hiding something or did they think they can do whatever they want and get away from it ? TOI is anti Acharya and anti BJP.
But the only thing I regret is, the people who had attended the party shouldn't have been arrested. They should have been warned and let go. But yes, this would be an eye opener to all those people who conduct illegal parties. This will force them to take required permissions before organizing any kind of party.Congrats Police force! Keep up the good work.

Hi,

I'm a foreigner, so no votes from here anyway. However, looking at the daily news, I must ask if the reportedly understaffed authorities are really focusing on the most critical issues when there are acute terrorist threats, communal clashes, murders, etc on every page?

No drugs were recovered, so that's all for that. As for the alcohol, is it not an established means of buying and selling votes in the ongoing elections?

As for the noice pollution, should I call the police every time there is a late party with incredibly loud music (e.g. holi) late into night right here in Bangalore? I have so far thought it's part of the lure of India, as has been the variety of ideologies, religions, colours and sentiments.

India, from at least foreigner's perspective, seems to be heading away from it's world-famous tolerant roots into something resembling some of the neighboring regions. It's a pity and it will eventually damage your standing among the nations.

Not everything needs to be accepted. But this seems to be going into black or white debate, where everybody is forced to pick one or the other. Is there nothing in between?

Dear Acharya,

The police have acted according the complaint given, its the media which is playing, and as Rajesh Rao has pointed out TOI is hell bent on tarnishing Bangalore's image. One thing looks clear this is not an "Innocent Birthday Party", one of the guys has told that he got an SMS and he doesn't even know whose birthday party it is. Media (in particular TOI) is making these uruly youngsters as martyrs/victims. Police should publish the medical reports to prove the media wrong. In todays edition of TOI in the second page the caption is "Girls Molested" when you read the paragraph it says nothing serious happenned, this shows how the media is misleading the public. Let the government be strong in its actions without caring much for the media. The same media had branded Modi as a hooligan, and now Modi has shown what he is...

Thanks,
Rajesh

The confidence with which the home minister uses the terminology "rave party" while describing this incident is quite worrisome. The fact of the matter is that no evidence of usage of 'drugs' have been found.
This smacks of having pre-conceived notions and pre-labelling of people involved as criminals before proven guilty.

Abusive, vulgar comments by some visitors this post ( written anonymously- just like face covering birthday party members), reflects their culture & upbringing in life. God bless them! Also note that there are many avenues for such writing, definitely not on this blog!

First we should get the facts straight:

- Was it a rave party,-- No.
I mean, it was a regular party which happens in million of Indian homes with 5-500 people at a private property every night.

One has to be very particular that was liquor being "sold" that night or not. 1000 rupees can be any sort of charge at the entrance. i mean i host a party at my place and 10 friends are invited, either everyone carries their liquor or we all contribute.
Can I also be booked for "selling" liquor?

The only complain which is valid is that people getting disturbed by the noise for which i believe no one can put persons in jail and create a havoc. For that one warning should be enough.

If not, then i think next would be me and my folks drinking at home till wee hours of the morning and watching a movie and we'll be in jail because some neighbor might complain about the noise.

Is this type of society we are heading too.
I'm very sure about one thing- that the police and the government are not 100% honest in their day to day job so why cannot a citizen get that liberty? Why jailed and waste 3 working days out of your calender.

Any ways i'm sure an hopeful about one thing that it is not long when all the command of this country is going to be in the hands of the young generation because by god's law these orthodox people ruling our nation cannot survive over 85-90 years of age.
What would happen after that?

Hope to see a new, educated, and a society with common sense in India within next 10 years who can distinguish between warnings and being booked.

Till than i can only avoid such blood boilers!

1.why did they hide their face?
2. Where was the required liscence and permission?
3. If anything would have happend to those 101 party goers who had been responsible?
4. If all was good why participants have told their relatives for B;day party and switched off their mobiles...

I am not sure how I ended up posting here, but I guess I just needed to say something about all the recent happenings with the 'rave' parties on farmhouses.

If you walk the streets of Bangalore, you will find a lot of trouble with badly made roads and traffic and pollution etc etc. Look into the eyes of the people you cross, and you will find troubled times of recession, job loss and terror. Apart from the menacingly growing number of burglaries and attacks in the city, there are a lot more issues to tackle by anyone who has vowed to be a leader for the state, or nation.

The house rent and the gas bill are more important to pay, when you have less money. Buying the green paint for the wall in the living room is a relatively trivial issue. We call this system of choosing: 'priority'. Compared to other serious issues today, a group people having some fun on some farmhouse is the very least of our bothers right now.

There are REAL problems today that are costing people's lives. If we have heroes, it would be nice if they can help.

1. going to a pub being 18yrs of age or above, wearing western clothes for women are all these illegal?? if not then how any one will just make a issue on that?
2. bringing to light is different and beating up people is different, What was illegal in mangalore pub case?
3. when there was no drugs found in the party only a warning and order to leave the place could have done more better.

Make up your mind please? Initially people were saying that there is a problem because of 'Rave parties' and drugs. When it was found that there were no drugs, people began saying, 'wait for the medical test results'. And when that was negative too, people have started saying, 'the issue is latenight parties'.

Why do some people have such a huge problem if someone is partying in the privacy of their homes? If it disturbs others, there is an issue, accepted. And the police need to do their duty by disbanding, or silencing the party. Statements like 'issue is latenight parties' show hypocrisy and intolerance of a highest standard.

This goes to Vinod......

You seem to be this guy who works 9-6 and comes back home watches TV and goes to sleep....

Whats so perverted about hanging out in a private party with your friends.... why because there are girls there and they happen to have a good time.... I think people should understand this... People have the rights to do what they want to do as long as its legal.. Who care if soceity doesnt accept it.. if you are traditional then dont accept it but keep quiet.. but dont overpower your views on them coz they dont enforce it on you... and why do you keep mentioning rave party.. THIS WASNT A RAVE PARTY DUDE.. and yes rave parties should be banned since it uses drugs....

You know how many of these parties happen all over India.. thousands every weekend..... You know there is more violence and accidents happening on the road thanks to these wine shops in every street in Bangalore than having these private parties.

So quit whining and let them have a good time.... The more sane approach is to educate them on drunken driving which I am sure they are well aware of...

Hi Sir,

I very much agree with Vivek's opinion's and that's all what I have to say..The youth and the generation are changing.. dont try to enforce a culture of an India 50 years ago...the fashion ad trends are changing...what the government has to ensure is the security of women, provide security to avoid illegal activities and to control people when they turn against the laws. Change is the only thing which is constant hence try to live in the new India still maintaining the basic cultures... India have always been protecting her children like a mother..and that is what is expected out of the government...the law keepers are just obiding the mother India's words to protect her children and not by punishing them. In this case, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the person who let the farmhouse for partying neither the partying crowd. It is very obvious to have made noise when a crowd of more than 100 people gather and dance and drink, hence the local public in surrounding areas will be disturbed. The police should have warned the crowd or vacatted them. But arresting them, they have only spoilt the relationship and trust between the government and people. Even more, its ill treating the foreigners..where is the traditional value of "athithi devo bhava" ?? These traditional values are not meant to be nurtured in Taj Hotels but also in every corner of the country. What ultimately happened to the crowd arrested, they were molested inside jail by other jailers who belonged to the bad backgrounds. It makes life miserable to live a day in jail where its clearly understood that even in the modern India, there is not a toilet service inside jails or proper food. Is the government so poor or is there any rules that says to ill treat all the jailers and treat them worst than animals.

My request is, please remove the blindfold and see the worst crimes happening in the city where even after the case is solved and the guilty are found, yet they are simply let off just as they have money power. People involved in aggressive acts are left freely and people who one to enjoy one night in freedom of work or studies are punished for making noises... kindly think over it and do respond your views. Please live in the new India..I am a youth of new India..yet I treasure the values of India...that's a true Indian who mirrors the values everywhere we go ...by following the western culture, we will not become western...we are still Indian at hearts..and I hope and believe that every Indian youth lives this fact..

Some posters are trying to link drunken driving with parties. Accidents are also caused by truck drivers, cab drivers, auto drivers, who have a 'quarter Raja Whisky' before they get on to the road. We do not think of closing all wine shops because of this, do we?

There must be a huge merciless drive and a mass movement against drunken driving, it should be so merciless that people who think of drinking and driving should get the fear of God into them - whether they are auto drivers, IT professionals, retired officers - whoever.

In Europe, I see that people enjoy their drinks, but no one would dare to even dream of getting behind the wheel after a drink. Such is the fear of the law. A similar situation needs to be brought about in India. Indians can very well enjoy their drinks and make necessary arrangements to reach home. THAT, should be the focus.

Times of India has crossed all its limits in slandering Home Minister in past few months.

But that is not very surprising, considering they are indebted to S.M.Krishna (and Congress) for nice BDA sites. Times of India's Bangalore Editor and couple of staff received BDA site from CM's quota so they are just paying back that to Congress now.

Note how S.M.Krishna is still projected as saviour of Karnataka and Bangalore in Times of India?

TOI's Editor was known as "court Pandit" (or was it jester) during Krishna's rule - he was singing praise of Krishna when Bangalore and Karnataka was buring due to Kaveri crisis.

Fellow Bloggers,
The key point is that whether we are prepared to allow our own children to party all night be it rave or not ? Are we OK to see our daughters arrive in the morning after a night long outing ? The answer is definitely a big "NO"....at least by most of us I would think. So what are these liberals talking about ? Are they fighting for the rights of other's daughter's and son's ? Doesn't this smack of hypocricy ? So do page3 folks and media ( read TOI )wish to encourage children to do things against their parent's/guardian's wishes ?
As Rajesh Rao pointed out there are severely divided mindsets out there in the city of Bengaluru...but the sane one's will prevail against the hype'd ones.

In Karnataka , if BJP Govt does anything , i t is wrong because Cong Govt in Central.

Renuka Choudry min for women , what does she has done still for women in rural?
answer is zero, so many rural women are abused in several ways still.

Reva parties , that too without permission, no excuse in this issue. What police has done is right and within the boundary of law only.

some people says , if such kind of parties went off in private places , nothing wrong.

If some girl/women is raped/murdered in the same party, who is responsible, is it wrong or right?

They are trying to say , in private places, they can do , what they want, nothing is wrong.

I am not talking about their personal issues.

A Soul In Exile said...

@sp and others.

So many of you are saying "what if something had happened in/after the party. Who was responsible?"

well... in that case, please ban all Diwali celebrations/crackers - a lot of accidents do happen/can happen.

Ban all Holi and Garbha festivies - these are used by hooligans as events to molest and harrass women (see news of murders over Holi scuffles this week!).

Ban all colleges and institutions - because admissions and ragging thereon leads to deaths.

Ban all vehicles on roads - because there are too many accidents happening.

With all due respect,

I believe the police have been unable to detect drugs, or their usage. The courts will decide if the action taken by the police was excessive or not.

Loud music beyond a certain time does cause a public nuisance, so that serves as grounds to arrest the organisers. However let's stick to the facts, this was NOT a rave party. Stating the true facts will bring you a lot of respect. If you hadn't branded it a rave party no one would have, or even been capable of, opposing your view.

You say "Indians support neither Western culture, nor oppression".

You, sir, can make this statement only for yourself or your acquaintances. You cannot make a blanket statement which purportedly speaks for ALL Indians. What if I, or some person 'X', as an Indian, prefers to follow 'Western Culture'? What people are against, and what causes all the protests and demonstrations is the fact that some people would impose what their view of culture is, on others.

And first, how do you define 'Indian Culture' or 'Western Culture'? I would like to ask you, have you ever been to the West, or lived there? What is your view of 'Western Culture'?

Every issue needs to be looked at, and judged, on the basis of specific merits and demerits. Let us not digress into issues of localite vs. outsider, etc.

At the end of the day, I think we all agree that it is indeed essential to crack down on rave parties where drugs are used, and certain other 'activities' take place (In the interest of decorum and decency I will refrain from mentioning explicitly what these 'activities' are).

On the other hand, parties where no laws are broken must be allowed to go on. It is unacceptable to impose a moratorium on dancing, drinking, etc. in the name of preservation of culture. Culture is an ever-evolving thing. Several things that were frowned upon in previous generations are acceptable today. All we need to ensure is that the law of the land is not broken, and no third party is inconvenienced.

Hello Vinay,

1. Serveing liquor beyond stipulated time - Is it not illegal?

2. Serving liquor with out permission - Is it not illegal?

3. What were these Girls doing at 3.00AM at a farm house? Were they performing pooja? doing some social service? enjoying with right spirit?

Police have taken action and it is perfectly all right.

We are supporting the police action which is perfectly legal.

There is no moral policing involved here. Stop whining.

Anonymous said...

Mr Anonymous who replied to Vinay,

Here is the answer

1. Serving liquor beyond stipulated time - Is it not illegal?
ANS: Can you let me know - what is the stipulated time?

Dear the stipulated time is only in the bar not in the house? If so, where the Karnataka government has published the guidelines regarding the stipulated time to serve liquor?

2. Serving liquor with out permission - Is it not illegal?
Ans: Whose permission they have to take to serve liquor in house? Is it illegal to have boozing in home? Should I have to take permission from police for that? Where are the guidelines for that?

If so, let police arrest who sold the liquor? Did they identified them?

3. What were these Girls doing at 3.00AM at a farm house? Were they performing pooja? doing some social service? enjoying with right spirit?
Ans: What’s your problem if the girls stayed at 3.00 A M, let them do social service or what ever they want. Who the hell are you to ask? It’s a democratic country, its there wish.

Answer the below questions:

1. On what basis the police arrested?
2. Can Police show the records on how many bottles they got?
3. They told drugs were used – where is the proof for that?
4. Who asked them to detain illegally with out permission – they did because no politician’s son is involved?
5. Why did they keep in police lockup – are they murders, thieves, rowdies…..?
6. Why police didn’t warn them before arresting – police wanted publicity?
7. Where were the same police when 3 girls were humiliated in public the same week in Bangalore?

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ABOVE ACTIVITIES?

4. Police have taken action and it is perfectly all right.

What police have taken action for goons who made attack on women’s in Mangalore? People are free and they are roaming.

If you want to say, put your name and say – not as Anonymous.

What is Hindu Culture? This is the land which inherited Kamasutra. Have you ever visited temples and seen the pictures of goddess – does this is Hindu Culture?

Can some one define, what Hindu Culture means? Can you give the reference?
Let me see who has the guts to reply!!!!!

This shows the mentality of the people who have not grown up 

Anonymous:

"There is no moral policing involved here. Stop whining."

I am extremely happy that the police swung into action on the basis of a complaint by neighbours. I am extremely happy that they investigated whether narcotics were being used. I am happy that the police did not settle for bribes to hush up the issue just because rich people were involved. I am happy that the police is efficient and quick enough.

I am unhappy at the treatment meted out to the party-goers subsequently. I am unhappy that this probably sets a precedent for raids on private parties of all kinds.

But I am MOST UNHAPPY that several people are supporting police action because of the 'moral aspect' instead of lauding them for performing their duties. Your statement shows that you are happy that girls who dare to go to a farmhouse at 3:00 AM are taught a 'lesson'.

You have yourself proved that one of your prime areas of focus is to defend morality and culture. I ask you, what business do you, or I, or anyone else, have to judge what a girl can or cannot do, and at what time of the day or night? Is is consensual or forced? Illegal or legal? That is all that matters.

Anonymous said...

Dear Satish & Vinay,

1. On what basis the police arrested?

ANS : For serving liquor without taking permission. Here it was sold 'Not at Home'. This was arranged by people who took Rs 1000 from people who attended this'party'.

2. Can Police show the records on how many bottles they got?

ANS : I donot have any count. But looking at the TV pictures, looks too much.

Why dont you ask relevent people.
Does it matter whether it is 400 bottles or 450 bottles?

3. They told drugs were used – where is the proof for that?

ANS: Police never told that Drugs were used.

Check the media reports from CNN-IBN. Police clearly told that they have NOT got any drugs but are investigating the blood samples of the party goers.

Why do you give such misinformation to confuse people.

4. Who asked them to detain illegally with out permission – they did because no politician’s son is involved?

ANS :Why are you assuming that it was Illegal.
Selling liquor without permission beyond 11-30 is illegal. Hope you are in Bangalore and know the rules.

5. Why did they keep in police lockup – are they murders, thieves, rowdies…..?

ANS :Where do you think every petty theif is held? In 5 star hotels?

6. Why police didn’t warn them before arresting – police wanted publicity?

ANS:Are you expecting answer to this question?

7. Where were the same police when 3 girls were humiliated in public the same week in Bangalore?

ANS: Can you have police at all places?
Did some one warn the police before they were humiliated?

This 'Party' was a case where local people informed police about the party.

8.What is Hindu Culture? This is the land which inherited Kamasutra. Have you ever visited temples and seen the pictures of goddess – does this is Hindu Culture?

ANS:How is Hindu culture or Moral policing associated with this case?
What is Kamasutra doing in this discussions? Dont bring issues totally unrelated

9.You have yourself proved that one of your prime areas of focus is to defend morality and culture

ANS :As I had told earlier, it is NOT a morality case. Here were 100 drunken party goers who were arrested for what they have done.

What is really appalling about you people is this attitude of refering who ever who has got views other than 'so called livberal'as Moral Policing.

As you are taking on 'Moral Police' , I'm sure you will have your comments published in TOI. Be happy about it and happy reading !!

Dear Vinay and Satish

Here are answers to some of the remaining questions

1.What police have taken action for goons who made attack on women’s in Mangalore? People are free and they are roaming.

ANS. Police arrested the culprits within 10 minutes of the incident.
The court released them on bail as none of the people including the media registered a complaint.

Police have performed duty by arresting the culprits. But it is the duty of the concerned people including media to register compliant and move forward.

Even after advertising in local papers to lodge complaints why these people were hesitant? In conservative society such as ours, people will be ashamed to admit that their son or daughter had gone to a pub and involved in incidents like this. This is how majority of the people are and you cannot fault them for it.

About a month back, Karthik Somiah who killed 4 people on road due to the influence of alcohol was arrested.

HE IS OUT THERE ON BAIL

Why are you people not protesting?

In Mangalore a 10 second incident where no major injury was reported except pushing some people to ground, release of the arrested people made headlines for a month but this road rage by this drunken driver and subsequent release of this killer was not reported by this page 3 news paper.

Why are you people silent about this incident?

Dont you value the life of these people who got killed by this rascal?

I have a question too. Why is Times of India playing up trivialities on the front page when far more important things are happening? Is it a newspaper for those who do drugs or go to parties to get drunk? It should clarify its stand, so that readers can decide if they should expose their children to its influence.

Anonymous said...

Please understand guys. It is a matter of law and order. If someone feel police did wrong please justify. They acted as per law. We Indians are big hypocrites. At one side we want police to be proactive and prevent all kind of crimes and we ourselves dam care for law. Everyone are saying there were no drugs, but what if there were? Also it was a public party without permission, not private, pls don't justify that. If this is correct then each one of us can rent our houses for parties, put a paper add and mint money, can survive recession huh? Anyway Times of India can help us. If you all guys want to party please go to pubs, bars or private parties at friends home. Don't go to such illegal parties and then cry and blame police. Finally if someone claims no crime or accident can ever happen after such parties, please go back to school.

Are you sure the culprits were arrested in 10 minutes? If people were released on bail – what type of case the police have filed in court? Is it so easy to get bail in court even after creating such havoc?

About a month back, Karthik Somiah who killed 4 people on road due to the influence of alcohol was arrested.

HE IS OUT THERE ON BAIL

Why are you people not protesting?

REPLY: It’s not my duty to protest and not yours also  there are people who are ready deal to do this issues – lets leave it to them.

Please be more specific when you ask questions :-)

In Mangalore a 10 second incident where no major injury was reported except pushing some people to ground, release of the arrested people made headlines for a month but this road rage by this drunken driver and subsequent release of this killer was not reported by this page 3 news paper.

Why are you people silent about this incident?

Can you I ask you one simple question – what you have done in your life?

I have satisfaction on what I am doing in my life because I work in medical field and I am involved in saving 100 of lives every year. I don’t want to boost about myself – if you want let me know.

Reverse Cultural tyranny:
Dipa Mehta, Canadian, wants to shoot 50 year old story denigrating india, on Kashi ghats.
Locals object. They say "It is our town, our birthplace, our karma bhoomi, where we will die."
We do not want a foreigner spoil this in the name of art to make a few bucks.
Culture Vultures squeal. Artist's vision is opposed. Oh! what a tragedy.

Similarly some idiot goes to a place in Dakshin Kannada to shoot a movie. Suddenly he sees his name in Guiness records. he decides to build a Chaplin statue in a place he was neither born in, lived in, or even plans to live in.
When locals, who have to live with the stupid statue object, they are branded as idiots, dolts.

Incidentally both problems are caused by bureaucrats who swoon at seeing some body rom cinema field.

Any small town is like a home with its own rhythm and consonance.
You would not like an outsider building something in your compound. Their objection is similar. You would not understand.

My village Shanti Grama is 12 miles from Hassan. We have a Narasimha temple probably 1200 years old as it was renovated by Narasimha Ballala, son of vishnu Vardhana in 1200 AD. It has the biggest tank in Hassan distt. I do not live there. But its image is with me.
I shudder at the thought of some idiot putting up a statue of Chaplin on the tank bed with people culture vultures rooting for him.

We old fashioned people believe that girls marrying to known families with transparent background, is the best bet for a possible succesful married life.
They are our children, not yours.
Hence our view should prevail.

You want your children to smoke, drink, have boy friends from many religions, fine.

Nobody has right to dictate how we bring up our children.

If guarding our children is moral policing, if guarding our villages, towns from outside's stupid ideas is lack of appreciation of cultre, so be it.

Dear Shantigrama,
With your kind permission, I would like to cut and paste your comments in other blogs. You have captured what many others feel in Karnataka.
Please let me know if you are comfortable with that.

Dear Sir,

Here we have quite a heated discussion. In all this discussion As for all practical purpose it was an illegal party. It was not a normal private party with freinds and colleagues but a commercial party which was advertised through net and SMS. I have the SMS for it myself.

It had a cover charge and as someone talked about Dandiya, As a organiser myself I am aware of the number of permission I need to take before even I advertise it.

I wonder if such permission were taken for these parties beforehand. Such parties are happening everyday in all the major metros. It was the participants Bad Luck that they were caught. Now it cant be work of Communal BJP police as recently in Pune the secular Congress Police also did the same.

Even when we conduct an office party we need to take permission to serve liquor. Most of the clubs and hotel charge for that permission. If there was no permission than it was illegal and if anyone thinks otherwise they can challenge it in any court. Aleast everyone will agree that we are free to do that.

Secondly I wonder what action has been taken against the owner of that farmhouse to allow such illegal party. I am waiting for Hon. Home Minister analysis of the event.

Most of the people caught are well to do people. They surely can afford good lawyer and sue the police if they feel the police action was illegal. Whats the point in discussing the legality when even they understand that it was outright illegal.

Someone said that what impression will it give to foreigners. After going to the nationality of the foreigners caught the revellers from Iran, Sudan and Oman cannot even drink legally in their own country. The Lone german and French has similar parties banned in their own country. And then there are Eritreans who can suggest where in Asmara we can get such parties.

Antway all travel adverseries request the tourist to obey local custom. Now dont tell me that this party is a social custom quite common India.
Few of the bloggers has the best arumentative. They are comparing it with cases where the culprits is not punished or were hushed off.

By that logic a theif can always plead to the judge that since not all theft are solved or theives caught, they cannot be punished..

At the end of the day they were doing something illegal, someone objected to it and the police got the news and the revellers were caught. It is plain simple as that. If anyone think otherwise there is a court and they have money to get the best legal defense so why are they waiting.
We are still not a banana republic.
