What a great initiative !
Sir, will there be a ladder to climb down if the monorail breaks down in between stations?

Sir,
How do you justify the cost (about 30-40 Million Dollars per Kilometre).
And should we not improve our road system before venturing into such high-cost projects?
I think we should invest more on Road Safety and related infrastructure (like footpaths, Signal Systems etc), and bring it close to international standards. Also, I’m sure you are aware that KL Monorail (in your example) declared bankruptcy early last year before being bought by a government-owned company.
For Mangaloer/Udupi I would like to see development projects in the area of basic amenities like Emergency Services (Fire, Rescue, Ambulance etc), Road Safety and Healthcare…(I would have mentioned Electricity/Power,.. lets just leave it to Lord Krishna).

Good idea.

Udupi may not need a monorail as of now but will certainlt need in near future. It will be good to start right now and be future ready

If we can have elevated rail lines across sea coast, it will be a great boost to tourism.

Dear Proactizen,
Points noted. We are also aware of "other factors" like favoritism/ nepotism which led to the losses in KL sky train affairs.Idea of this post is
- to generate awareness, so that at least we can keep the future track areas claer of illegal encroachment
- have a healthy debate/ look for alternatives!
thanks for your inputs

Dear Dr. Acharya,
I'm glad you took time out of your busy schedule and responded to my post. Thank you.
I believe that a true leader is one who has the ability to both listen to others and to make them feel heard. And I accept you as a true leader.
However, as I said earlier, I would hesitate to express my support to the Monorail Project proposal for Udupi/Mangalore until the standard of living in these townships are raised to adequate levels.
My question is- Shouldn't we concentrate on immediate issues that require more focus?

Sincerely

Dear Proactizen,
Administration involves
1. Routine administration- day to day affairs
2. Administrative reforms- to to do things better
3. Planning- for future...
the monorail project is in planning stage. So we have not lost focus on what needs to be done now! So the Rs 2 crore which is earmarked in the budget is for feasibility survey, survey of proposed route etc.,

Sir, It is just wonderful to see the great plans for future in Karnataka. I'm from neighboring AP.

I came to know about your blog today. I've read nearly 50 days of blogs today. Never before did I feel so close to leaders; Never before I felt so much proud of Indian politicians.

My Questions:
a) There are lot of efforts on infrastructure front. However, the new roads etc. being layed are only half-systems like no foot-paths; no strict traffic policing. Yes, people should not wait for police to correct them but as you know, when we feel helpless, we look for people like you to enforce a system.

b) The BJP in AP is still not strong enough. I wish BJP establishes itself more at grass root levels in AP - We had good CM in Mr. Naidu but, the Cong. govt is totally useless. It will be a dream if two prime development oriented parties BJP and TDP come to power in AP and eliminate Cong forever.

Dr Acharya, while a discussion on monorail for Mangalore will require talking about statistics, demand, and fit with an overall mobility plan, it is good and heartwarming to note that there is some real push and talk about public transport now. New routing scheme for BMTC (Big10), and monorail proposal for Bangalore are proof of this new mindset at Bangalore.

It will be great to see the same mindset extend to other cities of our state as well. Hope we will hear concrete transportation plans for Mangalore, Mysore, Hubli, Shimoga etc soon.
