BANGALORE: The legislative council debate on communal clashes in Mysore city was put off to Monday following a request from the ruling party leaders and acrimony over an adjournment notice from the opposition leader. " For God's sake lets not debate on this issue today as the situation is still tense in Mysore. The words we speak here may provoke the people there. We will first ensure the situation is under control and later we will answer all your queries,'' chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said in reply to the opposition leader's demand seeking to move an adjournment motion on the issue. The CM also maintained that local people in Mysore are not instigating the violence but vested interest from Kerala, Mangalore and Kodagu. "How will local people dare to indulge in violence when section 144 is in place? This is clearly the act of outsiders to disturb peace and harmony in the state,'' Yeddyurappa said. Defending the police, the CM said its high time they support the police and boost their morale. Earlier, acrimonious scenes were witnessed when the ruling party leaders including Yeddyurappa raised objection to contents in the notice of opposition leader V S Ugrappa seeking adjournment motion to debate on communal clashes in Mysore. While appealing for a debate on the issue, Ugrappa, in his notice, had held police and state government responsible for the clashes. " How can the opposition leader pass the judgment even before the issue is discussed in the house?', home minister V S Acharya asked. (TOI)
