South Asia’s first solar power plant in Yelesandra to generate 15,000 units per day

‘2,520 MW more power by March’

The State will have 2520 MW of additional power to its grid by March 31, next year, Home Minister Dr V S Acharya has said.

Speaking at a programme to dedicate the three-MW solar power plant at Yelesandra in Bangarpet taluk on Thursday, the minister said the power crisis in the State would ease TO some extent with the commissioning
of the solar plant.

“We hope that majority of the problems pertaining to power will be addressed with the additional generation expected by March next year,” the minister said.

Acharya said Karnataka had drawn the attention of the world by tapping of hydel power 108 years ago and the State was hogging he limelight once again with the setting up of first solar power plant in South Asia. The plant has been commissioned in a span of ten months, he said. (DHNS)

Resolve Hogenakkal, give and take: Acharya

Even as the protests by KRV activists continued, state home minister VS Acharya, in an interaction with presspersons, proposed an amicable settlement to the dispute, suggesting the implementation of the Hogenakkal hydel power project, using Cauvery waters. "We want to take a delegation to meet Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi. We will hold talks for an amicable resolution of the Hogenakkal drinking water scheme.

The confrontation between the two states could be resolved if Tamil Nadu cooperates in executing a hydel power project. In return, Karnataka could allow Tamil Nadu's drinking water programme," home minister VS Acharya said.

The relationship between the two states has been fraught, as Karnataka has reservations on Tamil Nadu's Hogenakkal drinking water project; Tamil Nadu, in turn, has been opposing the state's Shivanasamudram run-off-the river hydel plant proposed at Mekedatu in Kanakapura, Ramanagara district. Last week, Karnataka water resources minister Basavaraj Bommai slammed Tamil Nadu, accusing it of deviating from the original plan on the Hogenakkal project. This was refuted by Tamil Nadu deputy chief minister MK Stalin during discussions in the state assembly.

Proposing a via media, Acharya said, "We should utilise Cauvery waters for mutual benefit. Karnataka is ready to show a goodwill gesture by ending the resistance to Tamil Nadu's drinking water programme, but Tamil Nadu should allow Karnataka to build a reservoir near Hogenakkal to generate power. We will ensure that it will not, in any way, reduce Tamil Nadu's share of Cauvery water. Both states should make the best use of Cauvery waters, in a spirit of give and take." Referring to his recent participation in the state energy ministers' conference in New Delhi, Acharya said that the state had been assured 1543mw of power from the central grid; however, it had only received about 1200mw. "I have demanded that the Centre allow us the full share. Not just that, considering the power crisis that the state faces, the Centre should raise the share allowed to Karnataka from the central grid to 2200mw."

A high level delegation from Karnataka led by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today demanded an assistance of Rs 318 crore from the Centre to carry out flood relief measures in the state.
Talking to reporters after his meeting with various Central leaders, the Chief Minister said Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has promised to include five districts sought by the State Government for coverage under National Horticulture Mission. These districts were Bangalore Urban, Mandya, Davanagere, Havri and Gadag. He said the Centre also assured Karnataka that it would send a team to assess the flood damages caused to the agriculture crops due to excess rains and drought in some districts of the state. The delegation met Mr Pawar today morning in the capital.
The Chief Minister explained to Mr Pawar about the flood damage caused by excess rains in 24 districts and floods in seven districts resulting in loss of 150 lives and damage to 10,000 houses across the state. The drought was basically in plains of the state. "The damage due to floods is assessed at Rs 517 crore and we have sought a central assistance of Rs 318 crore to take up relief measures," Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said. He said the request for Rs 2,000 crore last year was not considered in the right spirit.
Power crisis
The delegation also met the Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde. The chief minister explained how the state had to spend Rs 2,750 crore to purchase power at a very high cost of Rs 9.50 to Rs 10 a unit for ensuring smooth power supply. The state had sought the Centre ensure parity in terms of its allocations to Karnataka from its power generating units in the peninsula.
The state was getting a mere 20.5 per cent from the Central power units as against 31.6 per cent of Tamil Nadu and 26.19 per cent of Andhra Pradesh. The Centre should enhance its allocation by 500 MW to ensure fair share for Karnataka, Mr Yeddyurappa said.
The delegation also called on Union Minister from Karnataka, Mr Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes and apprised them on the power crisis. The delegation included power minister Eshwarappa, Home Minister Dr VS Acharya, Tourism Minister Janardana Reddy, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Shobha Karandlaje and others.

Foundation stone for Gundia Hydro Power Project
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Yeddyurappa stated that the project will be built at a cost of Rs. 1119 crores and in the first phase Rs. 959 crores will be spent. It will produce a total of 400 MW using hydro power. He said the water augmented by a series of check dams across the tributaries of Gundia river at Yettina Holay, Kere Holay and Hongadi Halla and through a channel it will be sent to the underground generating station. It will be one of the large hydro power project in the state after Kali, Varahi and Sharavathi. (more when you click on the image)

ಬಜೆಟ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾಪಿಸಿದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಯೋಜನೆ, ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಈ ವರ್ಷದ ಮಾರ್ಚ್ ಅಂತ್ಯದೊಳಗೆ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿ ಡಾ. ಬಿ. ಎಸ್. ಯಡ್ಯೂರಪ್ಪ ಭರವಸೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.230 ಮೆಗಾವ್ಯಾಟ್ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯದ ವಾರಾಹಿ ಭೂಗರ್ಭ ಜಲವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ಯೋಜನೆಯ ಎರಡನೇ ಘಟಕದ 2ನೇ ಹಂತವನ್ನು ಶನಿವಾರ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಸಮರ್ಪಿಸಿ, ಹೊಸಂಗಡಿ ಯೋಜನಾ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು.ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪಕ್ಷ ರಾಜಕಾರಣ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಪಕ್ಷಾತೀತವಾಗಿ, ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಸಮಾನ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ರೂಪಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸದ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಶಾಸಕರು, ಸಚಿವರು ಮತ್ತು ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳ ಸಭೆ ನಡೆಸಲಾಗುವುದು. ತಮ್ಮ ಪಕ್ಷ ಅಧಿಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದ 7 ತಿಂಗಳ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಮುಲಭೂತ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಲು ಆದ್ಯತೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಇಚ್ಛಾಶಕ್ತಿಯ ಕೊರತೆಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇತರ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಹಿಂದೆಬಿತ್ತು. ಸರಕಾರದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳು ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ತಲುಪುವಂತಾಗಲು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ರೂಪಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟ ಮತ್ತು ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗಾಗಿ ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕ ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರ ರಚಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ನೀರು ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ಅಗತ್ಯ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಮನಗಂಡು ಅವುಗಳ ಸಮರ್ಪಕ ಬಳಕೆಗೆ ಆದ್ಯತೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ನೆನೆಗುದಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದಿರುವ ನೀರಾವರಿ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕೈಗೆತ್ತಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆಗೆ ಗಮನ ಹರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ನನ್ನ ಅಧಿಕಾರಾವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 5 ಸಾವಿರ ಮೆಗಾವಾಟ್ ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆ ಗುರಿ ಇರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂದಿನ 10 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಪರಿಯ೦ತ ವಿದ್ಯತ್ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ತಲೆದೋರದಂತೆ ಯೋಜನೆ ರೂಪಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.ಜನರಿಂದ ಚುನಾಯಿತರಾದ ಶಾಸಕರು, ಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಅಧಿಕಾರಾವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಏನೇನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಜನತೆಗೆ ಮನವರಿಕೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತೀ 100 ದಿನಗಳ ಸಾಧನೆಯ ವರದಿ ಪ್ರಜಾಪ್ರಭುಗಳಿಗೆ ನೀಡುವ ಹೊಸ ಪದ್ಧತಿ ನನ್ನಿಂದ ಶುರುವಾಗಿದೆ. ವಿರೋಧ ಪಕ್ಷಗಳು ಸಮರ್ಪಕವಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂದರು.ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾರಾಹಿ ಯೋಜನೆ ಕುರಿತ ಕೈಪಿಡಿಯನ್ನು ಇಂಧನ ಸಚಿವ ಕೆ. ಎಸ್. ಈಶ್ವರಪ್ಪ ಅನಾವರಣಗೈದರು.
