Udupi, Jan 14: Renowned Photo-journalist and multi-faceted Astro Mohan’s book ‘Pictorial Journey to Udupi’ was released at Hotel Kidiyoor, here.

Speaking on the occasion, managing editor of Taranga Sandhya Pai said that deeply grasping the ancient regions of Udupi, the people, their lifestyle Astro Mohan has presented them beautifully in his book. This would be very useful to the tourists, she opined. Kiran Manjanabailu said that the book throws a light on the famous tourist spots of Udupi, the educational institutions and the religious prominence of the place.

Higher education minister V S Acharya, the chief guest said that Mohan has brought out the book on collection of photographs in an optimal manner and it’s a best gift one can give to loved ones, he added.

Wishing all the success to Astro Mohan MLA Raghupathi Bhat said that the book provides the real meaning of the word ‘Art’. It contains the developmental details of Udupi district too which is very informative, he said.

In his presidential speech Eshwarayya said that photography is a peace of heart. A best photo touches the hearts and minds of the viewers. The creativity too plays a major role. Photographs have a cultural entity, he said.

Laxminarayana Upadhya led the prayers and Janardhana Kodavooru welcomed the gathering and compered the prpgramme. Praveen Mohan proposed the vote of thanks.

Udupi Paryaya 2012

Udupi, 01 October 2011: The next 2 year Krishna Pooja Paryaya at Shri Krishna Mutt will be taken over by Sode Mutt Seer Shri Vishwavallabha Theertha on 18th January 2012. Paryayothsava Swagatha Committee has been formed for this occasion. Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda who is also the MP of Udupi will be the Honorary President of this Committee and District In charge Minister Dr. V.S. Acharya will be the President of this Committee.

The preliminary meeting for this occasion was conducted in the presence of Shree Vishwavallaba Theertha at Sode Mutt. Speaking in the meeting Seer said that this will be his first Paryaya and he wished that all the devotees of Shri Krishna cooperate to make the 2 years of Paryaya successful. Minister Dr. V.S. The Sri Krishna Temple in Udupi will no longer be under the control of the State with the “erroneous notification” of the Muzrai Department published in April 2003 being withdrawn with immediate effect.

Briefing presspersons on the Government Order, Minister for Higher Education and Udupi district in-charge, V.S. Acharya, said the 800-year-old temple would be administered by the Ashta Maths, as has been practised for several centuries.

The Paryaya swamiji, who offers worship to Lord Krishna at the temple, will also administer the Krishna Math, and both the math and the temple were considered an integral math in accordance with a judgment of the Supreme Court.

Dr. Acharya said it was unfortunate that a government department issued an erroneous notification classifying the Sri Krishna Temple, along with several other temples, as a property of the Government.

A formal representation was made to the Government in August 2008 requesting that the Sri Krishna Temple be denotified from the list of temples notified by the Muzrai Department as those belonging to the Government.

Education: In another development, the Government has written to the Union Home Minister highlighting what it has termed the non-cooperation of Governor H.R. Bhardwaj in the administration of the State.

Dr. Acharya said it was improper of the Governor to turn down the suggestion of the State Government, based on the recommendations of a search committee, in the appointment of vice-chancellors.In a recent case, the Governor turned down the appointment of S.B. Hinchageri as the Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University, Dharwad, and instead appointed H.B. Walikar, he said.This has been challenged in the Karnataka High Court.

The Minister said of the 11 government engineering colleges approved by the Yeddyurappa Government so far, civil works of 10 colleges were in progress.

Among the college buildings in the final stages of construction are those in Haveri, Hassan and Ramanagaram. The Government had called for appointment of 60 assistant professors for the engineering colleges and 470 teaching staff for the polytechnics.

Now offer e-seva to Lord Krishna

UDUPI: HDFC Bank has tied up with Udupi Sri Krishna mutt to offer e-seva through HDFC Bank online donations and payment gateway facilities.

Inaugurating the facility here at Sri Krishna mutt premises on Saturday, home and muzrai minister V S Acharya informed that there are over 43,000 temples across the state and the government is introducing a new software offering exclusive information on the major temples in the state.

Initially particulars of three major temples including Subramanya and Kollur temple will be made available online. Subsequently, information on Udupi Sri Krishna mutt and other temples will be available, he added.

HDFC country head-operations A Ranjan said that the tie up will enable lakhs of devotees across the world. HDFC is already offering this facility to major temples in the country --Mata Vaishnodevi, Puri Jaganath, Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthana, Sri Siddhivinayaka temple, Somanath temple, Guruvayur in Kerala.

The website offers a variety of payment options to the devotees to make their offerings which include direct debit to their accounts with HDFC Bank or pay by a debit card or a credit card of any bank. (TOI/TNN)

Udupi: Tourism Minister G. Janardhan Reddy said on Sunday that the Tourism Department would widen the existing Adiudupi-Malpe Road into a four-lane one at a cost of Rs. 28 crore.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the four-lane Adiudupi-Kalsank Road here.

Mr. Reddy said that his department would give an impetus to tourism sector in Udupi district. It would invest Rs. 10 crore in various projects related to tourism in the district.

A jetty would be constructed at the St. Mary’s Island at a cost of Rs. 2 crore. Of this, Rs. 75 lakh had already been released, he said.

The Malpe beach would be developed at a cost of Rs. 85 lakh.

Yatri Nivas would be built at all pilgrimages in Udupi district. “In addition to promoting helicopter tourism, we will give importance to promoting heritage and coastal tourism,” he said.

The Government had decided to build the necessary infrastructure to promote tourism.

As many as 13 airports would be built in the State. Of them, 10 were in various stages of construction. As many as 10 airstrips, including the one at Udupi, would be constructed in the State. The Government had decided to construct 60,000-km-long roads under public-private partnership (PPP), Mr. Reddy said. Home Minister V.S. Acharya said that the Kadiyali-Manipal Road was being widened at a cost of Rs. 12 crore.

In the second phase, the Syndicate Circle-MIT Road would be upgraded, and the MIT-Athrady Road would be widened in the third phase. A ring-road would be developed in the city at a cost of Rs. 30 crore. The Kanakadasa Road would be widened. The Syndicate Circle-District Offices Complex Road would be upgraded, he said. MP D.V. Raghupati Bhat, Lalaji Mendon, Lakshminarayana and Gopal Bhandary, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, president of Udupi City Municipal Council Dinakar Shetty were among those present.
